Breastfeeding and advice....

Why is it that people will insist on giving advice?

I had to bite my tounge when offered the advice that I should give cooled boiled water or fruit juice to my exclusively breatfed baby "because it's so hot and he must be thirsty". Just because that's the advice she was given nearly 13 years ago when her daughter was young. I couldn't afford to offend her though so had to be polite and just ignore the advice.

Oh dear! It does depend on the baby, I think; Benedict had a day at about that age where he refused milk because he was thirsty, not hungry - but then again, it depends on the baby, and you now your baby best. <sigh>

I can agree that it might depend on the baby and even perhaps on the day.

Theo was not at the time refusing the breast, just having short "snack" type feeds which I interpreted as either "thirst", getting mainly foremilk with it's lower fat content, or an attempt to increase my supply. He seemed perfectly fine but was wanting to feed rather more frequently than sometimes. That could have been down to a growth spurt just as much as the weather.

If you haven't already run into her, may I introduce you to my friend ailbhe? She has a lot of wise stuff to say about dealing with Drive-By Mummies. Tell her I sent you. :-)
